Keep your gym sets looking fresh, your leggings sculpting and your favourite activewear in beautiful condition. Your gym clothes work just as hard as you do. From intense training sessions to everyday movement, your favourite activewear is constantly being stretched, washed and worn.

But did you know that the way you wash your gym clothes can affect how long they last? Whether you're wearing scrunch-bum shorts, high-waisted leggings or a supportive sports bra, taking proper care of your activewear helps maintain its shape, stretch and appearance.

At IANGUM, we believe feeling confident in your gym clothes shouldn't stop after the first few workouts. That's why we've put together this guide to help you care for your favourite pieces.

1.  Understand Your Activewear Fabric

Not all gym clothes are made the same. Many performance garments combine polyamide (nylon) and elastane to create a balance of comfort, stretch and support.

IANGUM activewear includes styles made with 90% polyamide and 10% elastane, designed to offer a flexible, body-hugging fit.

Understanding these materials is the first step towards caring for them.

Polyamide: A lightweight, durable synthetic fibre that is widely used in performance clothing.

Elastane: The stretchy fibre that allows your gym clothes to move with your body and return towards their original shape. Although these materials are designed for movement, excessive heat and rough washing can gradually affect their appearance and performance

2. Wash Your Gym Clothes at the Right Temperature

One of the easiest ways to look after your activewear is to avoid unnecessarily high washing temperatures.

Excessive heat can damage the elastic fibres responsible for your leggings' stretch and supportive fit.

For most washable synthetic activewear, a cool, gentle cycle is a sensible choice, provided it matches the garment's care label.

IANGUM tip: Always check the individual garment label before washing, particularly for pieces with decorative details or specialised finishes.

3. Why You Should Avoid Fabric Softener ?

Fabric softener might leave your everyday laundry smelling lovely, but it's generally unnecessary for technical sportswear.

Some softeners leave deposits on synthetic fibres that can interfere with moisture-management finishes. Instead, choose a mild laundry detergent suitable for your garment and use the recommended amount.

Adding extra detergent won't necessarily make your gym clothes cleaner. Poor rinsing can leave unwanted residue behind.

4 . Never Leave Sweaty Gym Clothes in Your Bag

We've all done it. You finish an intense leg session, throw your gym clothes into your bag and completely forget about them.

Unfortunately, leaving damp clothing bundled together creates conditions where unpleasant odours can develop. If you can't wash your activewear immediately, remove it from your gym bag and allow it to air out.

Once you're ready to wash, follow the garment's care instructions. This is especially important if you regularly wear your gym clothes for intense training, running or high-intensity workouts.
